Brinda Norton was born in Hollywood, Florida and lived with her parents and three sisters. Her mother was a seamstress running a large sewing factory and instilled the value of sewing in all of her daughters. When she was 5 years old, Brinda began sewing. Brinda’s father was a firefighter and retired from the City of Hollywood Fire Rescue and Beach Safety Department.
Brinda attended school in the Broward County Public School System and played the flute and piccolo in the South Broward Bulldog Marching Band. She traveled with the band to El Salvador in 1976 and to Italy, Germany, and Switzerland in 1978 competing and winning a Gold Medal in the World Marching Band Olympics. During the summers, Brinda would work at the sewing factory with her mother, running the factory sewing machines.
In 1981 Brinda married her husband and started working for Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant traveling the world. In 1989 they welcomed their son into the family. Brinda began working for the School Board of Broward County in 1992, dedicating her career to the adult students of Sheridan Technical College, Broward Fire Academy, and McFatter Technical College. In 2006 Brinda was diagnosed with breast cancer and after nine surgeries she is now a breast cancer survivor.
She currently lives in Plantation, Florida where she retreats to her sewing room on the weekends. Her greatest desire is to make people happy through her passion for sewing. Brinda loves to spend her free time with her family and teaching her two granddaughters how to sew.
Due to the recent tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Brinda has been empowered to make a positive change through her passion of sewing and designing. Brinda has decided to dedicate her talent to make a difference in the community and it is her time to give back by paying it forward.
ENOUGH is ENOUGH. Life is too short, and it’s time for a change.
